I'm represented by Libra rising/Venus, which is in Taurus in the 7th.

Moveable possessions are represented by the 2nd house, which is Scorpio. So, Mars or Pluto. Having been reading Horary Astrology Plain and Simple lately, I'm gonna go with Mars as the dominant thing to read.

Moon is in Pisces in the fifth.

Mars and Venus are two degrees apart (whatever that means...I am not clear on the "approaching" or "separating" thing worth a damn).

Sign on 4th cusp (Capricorn) and its planet (Saturn in 11th) are supposed to help find the locality of the item.

"Judge by the application of the two planets signifying recovery. The
number of degrees between them determine the hours, days, weeks,
months, etc., to pass. If they are quick in motion it hastens time. If
one is angular the recovery is quick."

I think I found the needles sometime that night, so...maybe around seven hours later. I dunno on the hours here. Should have been found shorter, according to the horary.

"Angular houses - the significator for the missing item angular shows that it is near its owner, and suggests a quick recovery."

Well, that was true.

"if the Moon or 2nd-ruler is within 30° of asc-ruler, the missing item is at home, or somewhere near the querent."

True in both cases!

"The 10th shows the place of
work, the 7th the property of a partner, the 4th the oldest part of the
house or the property of the querent' s father, or places where elderly
people spend their time."

Well, they come up in the 7th, but "property of a partner" doesn't apply when I live alone.

"Air signs indicate places of high elevation or
locations with an open view: the upper part of rooms or places near the
top of the house, near windows or sources of light. Outside they
indicate locations high from the ground, or higher than the ordinary
ground; the highest hill or hanging on a tree - or west."

Not so much. But see below...

"Moveable (cardinal) signs show high places, lofts,
upper rooms, newly erected buildings or newly worked land, hilly
countryside. Places where there is a lot of movement or change. The
significator of the property in a moveable sign generally shows that it
is not far from its owner."

Oh, this is REALLY appropriate, especially the last two sentences.

"Humane signs (Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Aquarius) indicate
that the lost object will be found in a place frequented by people
-such as the home, rather than outside in a secluded area."

The needles were at home.

The needles were in my backpack, which was sitting next to me at the time.

So....????

Update: this page.
From this month's Mountain Astrologer magazine, there's an article in it called "Symbolic Substitution and the Way of Participatory Astrology."

"Symbolic substitution is about choosing to act in line with the Flow of Time by using astrological symbolism as a road map. The trick is to consciously substitute one possible future for another."

What does this mean, exactly?

"You are standing at a crossroads regarding your dead-end job, and your spouse is pressuring you to make a change in order to make more money. Is this really an astrologically appropriate time to make a change? Your past and your culture's "normal" expectations tell you to make the responsible choice and stay within the bounds of whatever society and your spouse deem logical and appropriate.

The Now is pushing on you. Your rational ego says you should give yourself a month to find a decent job, and you should immediately start looking in the newspapers. But external reality is not cooperating. Saturn is conjunct the ruler of your 6th house and squares your Mercury and your Midheaven. You get desperate and begin to practice New Age ritual magic in the form of creative visualizations and affirmations; still, nothing changes. Contrary to your most superficial wants and needs, this is not a time of opportunity for you on that level. Perhaps you need some time to develop new goals. Externally, you are at a red light, and you will only become stressed over the difficulties you would have to face in achieving unclear goals just now.

You see that the progressed Moon will change signs in six months and will enter Capricorn, the real sign of career. A month after this passage, the ruler of the 10th house will make a favorable aspect to Mars, the ruler of the 6th, and Saturn will be well past its square to the Midheaven. All of this suggests that the Now is now the time to make a change that involves public and work-related life. Your ego is trying to define the Now as your past history wants it to be. But the astrological code says this is a time for reaction, not conquest- a time for consolidating your position, getting organized, and being patient with the Now. But there must be some action. Knowing that Saturn is square your Mercury and the progressed Moon is still in Sagittarius but void of course, you choose to seek temporary work organizing legal matters. Or you look for a temporary job that represents a closure of some kind, maybe a sporting goods store that is taking inventory or even closing down. You seek a temporary job that is like one you've done before. In other words, you don't look for the next step in your career. And if you look for things that are actually described in the astrological Now, you will find opportunities that are appropriate and true for you."

In other reading, I also recommend the article on how horary helped find the author a condo.

I normally don't follow Vedic worth a damn, but this bit from this month's Vedic section applies to me as well (gee, who knew Princess Di and I had so much in common), and I was amused. Yeah, I can't wait to see a literal prince end up on MY doorstep...

"If the 7th-house lord is stronger than the 1st-house lord, such people are likely to marry "above themselves." In Princess Diana's chart, her 7th-house lord (Venus in Taurus) is significantly stronger than her 1st-house lord (Mars in Leo)."

My question's finally up on Gryphon Astrology. And as I pretty much figured by now (considering that Dad is now Doing Just Fine!!!!!... you know, for a vegetable... instead of declining even more right about now the way I had figured), he's going to be That Miracle Patient who lasts long past 16 months on a ventilator.

Whee. Watch my excitement. Watch Mommy go broke paying $24,000 a month for his care.

She's totally called it, though.

Your dad is the main concern in this horoscope, so we will turn to the
chart so that his house is on the ascendant. Fathers are ruled by the
fourth house, so we will look what is going on with the ruler of the
fourth house, Venus, and see whether there are any testimonies of
immediate death.first, we notice that Venus is in its fall in the
eighth house. The eighth house rules death, but since your debts planet
is already in it, we can see that it is because you are thinking of
death; he is not already dead. The fact that Venus is so debilitated in
Virgo, shows that your dad is in a bad way healthwise.

Much of the time, we will see in aspect between the person
significator, here, Venus, and the Lord of the eighth house or the
turned eighth house; those are Mercury and Jupiter, respectively. Venus
does not make any applying aspects to Mercury, and indeed the two
planets are in mutual reception by sign. This means that Mercury is in
the sign of Venus, Libra, and Venus is in the sign of Mercury, Virgo.
When we see this, this often means that death will not occur in the
timeframe provided.

Even if the eighth house ruler does not show death, we must also
look at the turned eighth house, which in this case is the eighth from
the fourth, or the 11th house, ruled by Jupiter. If we look at the
relationship between Venus and Jupiter, we see a terrible mutual
reception, as each planet is in the detriment of the other planet.
Jupiter in Scorpio, and Venus is in Virgo. However, the two planets are
separating from an aspect. Venus recently sextiled Jupiter, and the
meaning of this must be judged according to the situation. If your dad
is in a coma, it shows that death has already occurred, in any
meaningful sense of the word, and the question will be when the doctors
and your mom will recognize it. If your dad is still alive, it shows
that he has come as close to death as he will get for a while.

Thus far, the testimony seems to be that your dad will live out this
year. There are two potential testimonies that may show a turn for the
worse, but they are not as strong we would want to see for an
unequivocal testimony of death. in 6°, Venus will conjoin the South
node. Whenever we see something bad happening to her person
significator, when the question is about death, we can assume that that
nasty thing symbolizes death. This would judge that in about six weeks,
there is the potential for death. This testimony is strengthened by the
fact that the Moon will conjoin the Sun (a New Moon), which might be a
supporting testimony if death is in the cards. This will happen in
about 5 1/2 degrees. So we can see that six weeks or so might give
death, particularly if your father is already comatose; if nothing
happens then, it is likely your father will live out the year.

Checking when I originally sent it in to her, that would make the "six weeks" be coming up about the second week of November.

Bet nothing happens, though, since he's not officially comatose.

The conflagration of events building up right around that time...well, I will be very surprised if something DOESN'T happen around then.

Hell, my mom was all, "Hey, that hairdresser you liked? He's got appointment times on October 28," (her place of employment does his taxes), and I was nervous to book said time. I can't help but wonder when lightning is going to strike, or if I will make said appointment at all. (Great hair for the funeral?)

I actually wrote in to Gryphon Astrology for a horary question as to when he will die, and she said the wait in the queue is about three weeks at this point. So theoretically the horary will go up pretty close to That Time Of The Year. I am wondering if it will confirm my suspicions, or if by some surprise he'll look long-lived enough to make it into the new year. By that point insurance cuts us off, so I am terrified of him living that long because Mom will go broke paying the nursing home.

Too bad I didn't get up the nerve to write in earlier, because it would have been nice to know whether or not I will be able to attend classes that I would like to take this fall, and I probably won't sign up for because I'll probably miss a good chunk of time out of them.
