So, I got to meet a local celebrity from my hometown the other day. It was great fun- he's known for having the blingiest house at Christmas you have ever seen, and I got to tour the house. Huzzah!
So as I'm reading his website later, he happened to mention his birthday (the day before mine! Wow, I know a lot of April 23rd birthdays), AND the place of birth and time!
Yeah, I had to look.
He's a double Taurus (shopping, shopping), with a Sag moon (like me, hah), and URANUS RISING! That just cracked me up big time. He's in a very hierarchical profession/religion, but has the big ol' Sign of the Weirdo right front and center. With a north node in Leo (flashy!) in the fourth house...yes, he has a flashy house. (Interestingly enough, Chiron is conjunct the NN. I wonder what that means to him to do a flashy house with that aspect.) He's also a Venus Saturn person...a Catholic deacon sworn to celibacy.
Amusingly enough, my mother told him the next day that I'd seen we had nearby birthdays and he was all, "Taurus! Stubborn, likes to shop..." Believe me, if you've seen his house, you KNOW that. He must be really fun to go shopping with. Huh, I should meet the man more often. :)
Another one of those aspects I have...apparently, a quincunx here isn't too negative, for a change. The bolded stuff are issues for me lately.
- "Mercury mashed with Uranus is a signature of genius and while ideas are typically fleeting, you;d be well advised to pay them."
- "This aspect is an opportunity to become more conscious, to push your ideas beyond past limits. You realize that you can control your thoughts, and this helps to free your mind to think on your terms. Anxiety that surfaces now can be understood at its root level-- and seen from a more detached, objective perspective, it can be released.
If you take your identity from the groupmind and can only stick to their "talking points", you can find yourself stuck in a non-growth situation. If you find yourself constantly criticizing or feeling criticized, this could be a clue that you're preventing yourself from moving forward. It could be time to stop over thinking. Get out of your head! Find safe ways to open to your authentic self so you can be present and participate."- "Do you ever enjoy seeing the shocked looks you get from others when you blurt out something totally off the wall? You just may, with the planet of rebelliousness meeting your communication planet. Or, it's quite possible that this manifests simply as a lack of tact, which is not necessarily intended on your part. You can excel at anything where verbal skills and intelligence are necessary, although you may have to develop them."
- "The new and unusual things that occur to you may carry you far from the basic needs of your everyday life. Good ideas do not necessarily require you to act immediately to bring them about. Positive innovation will require you to alter yourself and your basic habits before you will see much change in the world or your environment."
- "Knowing what to incorporate what is unusual or different is into your intellectual development experiences can be difficult with Mercury quincunx to Uranus. It's like trying to keep up with the fast-paced changes in technology- you may feel that you're always a little behind. But you're not running a race! You're seeing ways to express your unique ideas and inventive concepts so that they are understandable, acceptable, and useful. Learning how to deal with your need for distraction is important, since you may never get anything finished if you changes horses in midstream too often."
While Googling around for some aspect or other, I started finding posts I had written in other places and feeling annoyed about it. "Goddammit, I wanted to find what other people said, not what I said" was the extent of it.
Yes, this is quite silly.
But while trying to not find my own writing, I occasionally find something that sounds like me, but isn't. Or the "hey, someone else has that particular combo of aspects!" phenomenon.
I have not done this, but apparently someone similar to me has.
"The first level of purpose has to do with what I am going to call for the moment 'a magic spark of life'. You have an extremely dynamic exact opposition between Uranus conjunct the Ascendant in the first house and Chiron conjunct the Descendant in the 7th house. This is a specific and rather unusual aspect creating a tight and powerful flow of energy right along the line in the chart that governs the interaction between yourself and other people..."
"Thanks a lot for the info on the Uranus/Chiron connection. I may have you do more on that in the future. I can physically feel it sometimes and wondered what the heck was going on. Now I know I'm not totally crazy!"
From Ask Metafilter:
From Sasstrology:Every Friday at work, feel restless. I'm not content to sit at my desk. I feel the need to walk around, do something, get out of the office. I can't seem to focus on work, or accomplish much throughout the day. My weekends are particularly exciting, but I just have the overwhelming feeling to get out as soon as possible on a Friday afternoon. What can I do to get over this?
I’ve been at my temp job for two weeks now, and I’m going stir-crazy. My responsibilities are Virgo to the extreme, and I can feel the negative aspects of Saturn’s transit through Virgo in full force: the burden of paying attention to detail; the boredom of attending to mundane, repetitive tasks. I want to break free and indulge my creative side (transiting Uranus in Pisces), which I purportedly do through the blog. But to be frank, most of my sasstrological efforts have been put into fixing broken links; posting over 20 entries a week from our various authors; scaling and cropping images. I’ve written just two posts for the new site since it launched last Wednesday. So, this launch has been way more Saturn in Virgo than Uranus in Pisces for me. I’ve had the occasional “ah hah!” moment when I think of a good idea for a post, but mostly I’m just working out kinks on the back end.
The dark side of Saturn is having the joy sucked out of life. I can actually derive pleasure from my Virgo Rising: I love to edit, for example. But recently, most Virgo responsibilities feel like a chore, and I am not savoring the moment, whether I am washing dishes or coding in HTML.
Ideally, Saturn opposite Uranus manifests as the practical application of ingenuity. The Virgo-Pisces polarity brings into it the ability to clearly express one’s imaginative flights. I’d like to think that, with this new site, I am integrating both my Virgo Ascendant and Pisces Sun. But Saturn’s transit through my First House is a heavy presence, and although I have plenty of Uranian flashes, they all need to pass the Saturn test. Can it be implemented? Will doing this increase my bottom line?
Working hard would be so much easier if I did not feel a simultaneous need to be free and do my own thing. But that’s precisely what this Saturn-Uranus opposition is about. Ideally, I’d work hard only doing my own thing – and running Sasstrology is part of how I plan to accomplish that. But now I have to go back to my tunnel and keep digging until the light breaks through.
As for me, I am trying to work on my NaNo novel right now and it is like dredging through sludge. My characters have a problem they don't know how to solve ("how do you stop an accelerating man?"), the answer is something I did NOT figure out before writing. I really don't know what to say or how to do it, so I am piddling about for the last two days, falling behind in word count and all I can have them do is have a shit-shooting brainstorming session. I am attempting to look up the science and not finding much I can apply to my situation. It is very literally a case of PRACTICALITY MUST BE ENFORCED...
Argh.
Well, maybe it's all Pluto's fault.
Well, this is cheering, for what it is:
Oh it's such fun how Venus squares BOTH Saturn and Uranus on Monday, sort of helping to personalise the whole Saturn Vs Uranus opposition via our own relationships...
In case it helps to imagine these inner archetypes facing off - Saturn is the Sage & Uranus is the Sacred Clown. Saturn is the Status Quo and Uranus is "the status wot?" iconoclast, genuinely amazed that anyone would even give a f**k. Saturn is your sometimes quite helpful inhibitions. Uranus is audaciously creative. Saturn is the quiet satisfaction of having gotten your taxes done. Uranus is the joy of a sudden hare-brained bolt of brilliance from out of nowhere.
Saturnine relationships are often duos who do well at work together, quiet and stable, getting off on the mutual reliance, sense of safety and shared opinions. Uranian relationships cause lots of w.t.f? moments from friends, if not actual tut-tutting. They're unconventional, growth stimulating & ludicrously good fun.
Saturn is society standards and expectations. Uranus is individuation & following one's own instincts. Obviously, either principle taken to extremes is awful: The juice-less, dry old voice of outmoded judgements. The total whack-job gibbering in the street. Uranian brilliance built on a foundation of homage paid to Saturn is amazing.
I haven't heard this on Saturn retrograde before...
Anyway, a retrograde archetype, whatever planet you apply it to, is simply the need to withdraw, to retreat, to rebel from the status quo expectation of how that planetary behavior is meant to manifest from a societal point of view. This necessary rejection of the status quo via the retrograde principle accelerates the natural evolutionary pace. Why? Because when you are withdrawing from the status quo you are arriving at your own unique and individual expression, essential individuality, of whatever planet of function is retrograde. The retrograde principle is non-static. It is very similar to peeling the layers off an onion to arrive at the core. That is why it is non-static; rarely does the retrograde aspect of a persona nature kick back and go "aha, that's it, no more, I'm relaxed and satisfied with this." In other words, the layers of conditioning are very deep and it takes along time to arrive at an utterly deconditioned state.
So, if we have Saturn retrograde, and we are talking about social conditioning patterns, could we now deduce that the Saturn retrograde person is going to be intrinsically oriented to rejecting, rebelling, withdrawing from, and questioning such social imprinting. In so doing, the individual would come to define her or his own natural authority ( Saturn), customs, regulations, norms, taboos, and way of integrating into the culture that he or she is born into. When Saturn is retrograde the door is open and pointing to Uranus. Thus, in general, the very nature of individuals consciousness is intrinsically different. In general, there is more of a sense distance or detachment from the immediacy of one's family and culture, a sense that there is more to reality (Saturn) than is being focused upon by the family or culture. This sense is produced by Uranus impacting upon by the family or culture. This sense is produced by Uranus impacting upon the Saturn retrograde. It is this Uranian sense that magnifies or intensifies the essential role of Uranus in Saturn retrograde individuals; to liberate and be free from the conditioning patterns of society, family, or any other conditioning pattern that is perceived to be limiting the ongoing individualization of identity.
Commonly, the Saturn retrograde is going to have a problem with one or both parents. It does not mean that they are going to be enemies, but it does commonly imply that one or both of the parents, most commonly the father, is going to reflect the values, beliefs, lifestyle, standard of conduct, what is right and wrong, opinions, and so on that the offspring simply cannot accept. In certain family situations this can be a problem and can create an emotional distance from the offspring to such a parent. And, from an evolutionary point of view, necessarily so. The point is that, at one level, Saturn correlates to a need to integrate our own sense of individual identity, authority, and purpose within the context of social purpose and cultural authority. We all have a specific social function to play out in the large social scheme of things on behalf of our culture. We all do. How we go about this is described by the totality of our birth charts and specifically Saturn. Saturn correlates to what we call the social maturation process, the process and transference from childhood to adulthood.
"Michele, with several planets in Leo, your Ascendant in Scorpio, and Mars in Taurus on the Descendant, you are a strong fixed-sign person. I am, too, and so I can sympathize with where you are right now.
The fixed signs - Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius - can be difficult to work with, because they are stubborn and immovable. The flip side is that they are stable, reliable, and durable. We can carry burdens that would break others. Of course, that can mean we get a heavier load in life, too.
Leo and Aquarius are being impacted heavily right now due to a series of eclipses in these two signs that began this past February and will run until August 2009. To a lesser degree, Scorpio and Taurus also are being impacted (along with Scorpio and Taurus Rising). Since you are a Rising Scorpio, you are getting hit doubly hard. I don’t doubt that you are tired. I am, too! But hang in there, because you are being offered an opportunity to transform, grow, and evolve. Unfortunately, this never happens without a certain amount of pain.
Simultaneously with the eclipses, we are experiencing an opposition of Saturn and Uranus. These two patterns don’t seem to be related, but they are linked in an indirect way. I bring this up, because Saturn currently is moving through your tenth house of career and is transiting your lunar North Node in Virgo. The North Node often indicates our “mission” in life, so I feel fairly sure that you are about to find it.
Your challenge, as I see it, is that you have a lot of “self-oriented” Leo energy in your chart, while your North Node in Virgo indicates that your life’s work is about service to others. You will have to find a balance that allows you to fully express who you are while also serving humanity."
I’m going to touch lightly on Uranus/Mercury aspects because these show up in the charts of those with lots of intelligence, occasionally bordering on genius. These individuals can operate at such a different level than most people it’s hard for them to find something to talk about over coffee or drinks. The “common” touch is often missing making it hard for them to relate to others. Their challenge is to find someone who can talk their language.
Venus and Mars in aspect to Uranus operate similarly – Venus functions by drawing others to us and Mars is how we pursue. Both of these planets when aspected by Uranus can make our love lives very exciting or make us feel like we are caught in a revolving door with lovers coming and going unexpectedly. There is a decidedly selfish element here especially if Uranus is conjunct, square or opposed to your natal Venus or Mars. This can be moderated by awareness of what’s going on. The sextile and trine are often found in charts of creative sorts who are good at thinking of original ways to enjoy themselves.
If you have an accurate natal chart based on a good birth time, Uranus aspecting the Ascendant and Descendant are strong clues to your relationship style too. Obviously a person with Uranus conjunct the Ascendant will project an aura of independence and originality – a “one of a kind” vibe. For those who are interested in this person, they may have to get to know them well enough to move past the public image. With Uranus conjunct the Descendant, we draw partners who are often brilliant and unpredictable. The challenge here for someone who desires a stable, durable relationship is to incorporate those qualities into themselves . . .
How will Saturn-Uranus affect me?
Elsewhere on this blog, I've discussed the respective influences of Saturn and Uranus on Venus. Both Venus-Saturn and Venus-Uranus aspects can correspond with problematic love lives, as either there's not enough affection or one doesn't want to stick around for the same 'ole thing. Well, imagine have both at the same time!
- Part of you craves stability while the other needs to shake things up.
- Whatever feeling of security you've built threatened by a contradictory desire to throw out the rule book.
- Your pursuit of exciting sexual encounters seems thwarted at every turn.
- Unconventional expressions of sexuality are met with stern reprimands or even punishment.
- Another person can "take on" one of these archetypes, either repressing (Saturn) you or disrupting (Uranus) your life. In other words, you could embody Uranus while a parnter goes all Saturn on your ass, or vice versa.
This opposition won't affect everybody's love lives: these planets will need to make an angular relationship to an important planet in your natal chart. Currently, Saturn is in Virgo and Uranus is in Pisces (both mutable signs), and soon they will ingress (move) into cardinal signs Libra and Aries. Their contacts are as follows:
- November 4, 2008 - 18 degrees mutable (Saturn direct, Uranus retrograde)
- February 5, 2009 - 20 degrees mutable (both planets direct)
- September 15, 2009 - 24 degrees mutable (Saturn direct, Uranus retrograde)
- April 27, 2010 - 28 degrees mutable (Saturn retrograde, Uranus direct)
- July 26, 2010 - 0 degrees cardinal (both planets direct)
How to tell if these aspects will personally affect you
If you have key planets in late mutable signs or early cardinal signs, then your love life will not be the same once this aspect has had its way with you. The mutable signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, and the key degree areas are pretty much the last fifteen degrees of these signs. The cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, and the key degree areas are the first five degrees of these signs. (I am highlighting the conjunction, square and opposition aspects to your natal planets. The Saturn-Uranus opposition may also make "soft" aspects -- the sextile and trine -- to one of your natal planets. Also, Saturn or Uranus may fall in one of your sex/relationship houses, or make an angle to your Ascendant.)
Hm, that leaves me out entirely. Uranus is transiting my fifth house, but since the fifth and eleventh houses are empty for me, and I have very few mutable planets, and none of them in the later degrees....nope. Around the 2010's it'll hit my nodal axis, but...
I'm kinda disappointed. I could use a shakeup in that direction...but then again, in my chart Saturn beats Uranus into submission every time, so probably not.
